SOUTH AFRICAN CUISINE

South African food is vibrant, cosmopolitan and truly unique. Exactly the same as the people and culture of this country. A mix of African, Dutch, French and Malay cuisine has influenced South African cuisine for decades.
Braai (Barbecue)

Arguably, no food is more iconic than South African braai. Braai is simply Afrikaans for barbecue or grill. But the word "braai" means more than grilling meat. Braais is a social event deeply rooted in modern South African culture. Braais bring friends and family along. Traditionally, wood is used to keep the fire burning for cooking the meat. But these days, modern methods such as charcoal fire are also used. Braais are very similar to potluck. Invitees bring their own meats, salads, and other foods to the event. Common braai meats include sausages (sausages), skewers, marinated lamb and chicken. In coastal areas, fish is grilled. Getting close to local South Africans and attending Braai is one of the best things you can do in the country. Surrounded by great people and delicious food, you get to see South Africa in a very real way.
Vetkoek (Fried Donuts Stuffed with Minced Meat)

Vetkoek is one of the healthiest and most honest South African foods. Vetkoek literally means "fat cake" in Afrikaans and originates as a fried dough cake. Then shape a handful of this dough-like treat and divide it down the middle. From there, the filling options are endless. South Africans like to stuff it with ground beef, boerewor, ham, etc. Many people make them for Brahe. From there, you can put one of the many delicious meats right off the grill. Vetkoek is heavily influenced by Dutch Oliebol. It is a very popular food in South Africa's poorest towns and suburbs. This is mainly because they are very filling yet easy to make.Street vendors and fast food outlets sell them in trucks. For an honest, local taste of South Africa, go for the hearty vetkoek.
Boerewors (Sausage)

Dishes using fragrant sausage are popular menus. South African cuisine is no exception. Boerewors are thick, flavorful sausages native to South Africa and Namibia. The name means "farmer's sausage". Ninety percent of Boeleworth is meat, with various spices and seasonings such as coriander and nutmeg making up the remaining tenth of him. There's always plenty of beef in this delicious sausage, and it's blended with lamb, pork, or both to create a rich, intense flavor. Boerewors, also known for their spiral shape, are loved by millions across South Africa in a variety of recipes. Incredibly, this delicious South African dish has gone down in history. In 2014, his Boerewor, the longest ever, officially broke the record for him over 5,100 feet.
